It was just announced that singer and actor, Naomi Scott, has been cast as the Pink Ranger in the upcoming Power Rangers movie. The film, scheduled to be released sometime in 2017, is a reboot of the popular television series of the same name. News about the film has been slim, and fans of Scott, the Pink Ranger, and Power Rangers can rejoice in having one more update about the movie and its progress.
Also known as a singer, her album Invisible Division was released just a year ago and received moderate attention. As an actor, she has appeared in the science-fiction television show, Terra Nova to much praise. Scott also plays a role in the recently released Matt Damon film, The Martian.
The casting news was initially released via the Power Rangers movie’s official Instagram handle, @powerrangersmovie. The user’s post proudly reads, “It’s official!” and features an image of Naomi Scott along with the text, “Naomi Scott is the Pink Ranger.” The Instagram post has over 2,000 likes and 400 comments, and also starts the hash tag, Pink Ranger.
Naomi Scott confirmed this news via a tweet and Instagram post. The tweet read, “I’m freaking out,” while the Instagram picture’s caption read, “I’m done.” Clearly, Scott is incredibly excited to tackle such an iconic role.
The upcoming film, which is scheduled to premiere in theaters sometime in 2017, is based off the hit television show and cult phenomenon from the 1990s, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The original television series was so popular that it spawned two feature length movies, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. The films were released in 1995 and 1997, respectively.
Dean Israelite, who has signed on to direct the film, helms the newest iteration of the Power Rangers. The storyline of the new Power Rangers centers around the original squad of rangers, reimagined as high schoolers. The film will depict the Power Rangers helping save the world with their powers; however, more plot details have yet to be released.Na
